| The Fiscardo Trail was the first trail FoI ever did on Kefalonia in 1991, although the waymarks were used as target practice in the following winter!
The Fiscardo Trail is still a feature of this pretty port and takes as its route a walk out onto the kavos or headland. The trail journeys to both the Venetian and British built lighthouses and then to an old Byzantine basilica.
Out here on the headland there are great views all along the coast and the chance to look back at the village of Fiscardo and the flotillas as they make their way into port. The scattering of terraces that can still be seen are reminders that, prior to the bounty of tourism, Fiscardo, struggled like many of the villages on the island. A far cry from the salubrious present day.
If you're staying in the village the trail is a great way to get to know Fiscardo and if you're passing through, it gives you a sense of how important this port has been over the centuries.
