| A string of tavernas and bars along the harbourside make for a pleasant enough place to wile away a couple of hours.
In the nearby region are the underground caves of Drogerati and Melissani which, although admittedly beautiful, are now a bit of a tourist trap.
Karavomilos is a couple of kilometres down the road and it is here that the underground water from the lakes eventually surfaces. With its pretty lake and sea mill, Karavomilos is certainly worth a visit.
On the hillside to the south of Sami is Ancient Sami. You can either walk up the path from behind the resort, or drive up, past Antisamos beach. Either way makes for a great trip. Aside from the gigantuan walls that can be spotted on the hillside, there are the ruins of an ancient settlement. Different building styles from Mycenean, Roman and Byzantine periods can be seen as different civilisations built onto and repaired the walls. There are also amazing views down to Sami and across to Ithaca from up here. See Kefalonia Top Trips for more information.
