Spring at Lourdas

|
| Lourdas, or Lourdata, is situated behind one of the longest beaches on the south coast of Kefalonia (Cephalonia). The resort of Lourdas, or Lourdata, has grown up by the original village. This is a mid-sized resort with a collection of apartment blocks and hotels and about twenty or so tavernas and bars at its heart. This is an old favourite on Kefalonia (Cephalonia) that has visitors coming back year after year. Why not treat yourself to the Kefalonia Digital Information Pack which includes 7 Introductory Walks, a guide to Kefalonia, eight wildlife booklets and the online version of the 25 min FoI Movie Kefalonia Explorer - just 3.95! | Lourdas is a pretty enough resort, especially the area centred around the original village of Lourdata. The resort is growing in size and there are grumbles about the number of tavernas springing up in the resort part. |
| |
| Lourdas is a clean and well maintained village and resort and the beach is kept fairly clean during the summer months.
|
| |
| As it is situated the end of the road, there is no traffic passing through Lourdas. In the summer a lot of visitors do come down to the beach though, so be careful walking along the road.
The main safety issue is the steep walk back up from the beach. This is a hefty walk which is not suitable on a daily basis for the old, infirmed or those with small children. A car is recommended if you want the easy life. |
| |
| There are a number of good tavernas and bars in Lourdas, but it is a fairly quiet resort with no noisy nightclubs.
Lourdas is fairly cut off from the rest of Kefalonia, with no real bus service. There are a couple of nice walks along the coast towards the Monastery of Sission and Katsonas beach but aside from that, you really will need a car if you are to do anything away from the beach at Lourdas.
If you plan to hire a car, the Livathos region, with its interesting villages and lush green countryside is at your doorstep. The south east of the island is also within easy driving distance as is Kefalonia's capital, Argostoli. |
| |
| Lourdas, or Lourdata is based around a tiny Kefalonian village. There is a small number of inhabitants throughout the year. Although there is no pre-earthquake architecture, with its Plane tree shaded shaded square and few tavernas this is a typically Kefalonian village. The beach and resort can get quite crowded in the summer.
