| Katelios is a very laid back resort which has a loyal following, which grows in numbers every year.
Katelios is a real 'get away from it all' resort, with a handful of shops and a few more tavernas. Aside from this, there is not much down here. There is some building along the waterfront road, but the newer development is about half a kilometre inland, in the fertile valley behind the beach.
The area around Katelios in the south east of Kefalonia (Cephalonia) has some of the island's most dramatic beaches. Mounda (or Kaminia), Kefalonia's major turtle nesting beach, is about a fifteen minute walk around the headland, if you go over the rocks at the end of Katelios beach. This is entirely possible but may be difficult if you are infirmed or have young children.
Why not treat yourself to the Kefalonia Digital Information Pack which includes 7 Introductory Walks, a guide to Kefalonia, eight wildlife booklets and the online version of the 25 min FoI Movie Kefalonia Explorer - just 3.95! Click for more info on the Kefalonia Digital Information Pack

| Katelios is a quiet and relaxed resort, popular with families and older couples. It has a pleasantly uncommercial feel to it. There are two parts to the resort; the beach side development, which comprises a strip of tavernas and a couple of shops. This strip is shaded by big trees, and makes for a pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by.
The greater part of the accommodation is set back about half a kilometre in the valley behind the beach. It is a ten minute walk though the olive and citrus groves that fill the Katelios valley, although this road can be a little busy.
Katelios is renowned as one of the friendliest resorts on Kefalonia, with taverna owners and shop keepers all wanting a chat. |
| |
| With a small community of local people living in Katelios, it is a clean and well maintained resort. |
| |
| Although pavements are not widespread, Katelios is a very quiet resort without much traffic. Cars can drive quickly along the road between the beach and main part of the resort, so pay careful attention when walking.
Friends of Kefalonia (Cephalonia) would recommend you take a torch both to find your way back to your apartment and to make yourself obvious to any traffic there is.

| Without a car, non-beach activities are a little limited in Katelios. The valley behind certainly looks worth exploring, covered as it is by cool olive and citrus groves.
It is possible to reach the neighbouring resort of Skala by bicycle or by bus, although the buses are limited in this corner of Kefalonia.
Aside from this, there are a number of bars, tavernas and swimming pools in Katelios.
If you want to see the area around Katelios, a hire car is a must. |

| Katelios was originally a fishing village and a few boats still do work from the harbour. The village is increasingly reliant on tourism now and Katelios would definitely be classed as a resort, rather than a village. Why not treat yourself to a car hire whilst you're on Kefalonia so you get the most out of your visit. Click here for Kefalonia Car Hire
Katelios does have a resident community which remains during the winter. It is one of the friendliest resorts on Kefalonia.
