Villages in Kefalonia, and the whole of Greece, will nearly always have a square which would at one time have served as a gathering place. Many squares were built around Platinos, or Plane trees. This spreading tree not only gives good protection from the sun, but Plane trees are a good indicator of fresh water. Look out also for the huge bay trees in Krini.
Take a little time to relax under the old Plane tree and imbibe the atmosphere of this quiet Kefalonian village. |
| Krini is not exactly a hive of activity but it is a pleasant little village to get out for a quick wander. The church is at the heart of the village. You will notice the decorative graves in the churchyard. It is a Greek tradition to decorate loved ones graves with photographs and olive oil lamps and you will see many graves like this.
Just outside the church, you will notice several old stone watering troughs, placed here to water the goats and sheep. Pilaros is famous for its feta cheese. Why not treat yourself to a car hire whilst you're on Kefalonia so you get the most out of your visit. Click here for Kefalonia Car Hire |
